I was inspired by my own situation moving my Aunt from her condo into an Assisted Living Facility. Being family, it was difficult to go through rooms, drawers, and closets full of items that were passed down from parents/grandparents, but also to see her struggle through the years of memories and accumulation that actually caused her stress when it was time to "let go".
I want to help our elders and their families transition in a way that it allows for positive memories, enables less stress on the family, and supports right sizing for the family member that is transitioning to a new living arrangement.
My aunt who has now been in assisted living for two years, is thriving and happy, getting the medical, social and emotional support she needs. I would say that her transition has added years on to her life. As family, I am relieved to know she is safe and surrounded by a support system to get her through her next life stage.
